Libre Grow

Activities

An Activity is any action you take in your garden — planting out tomato seedlings, turning a compost pile, testing soil pH, harvesting garlic, or saving lettuce seed. Activities are the backbone of Libre Grow: they record what you did, when you did it, and what was involved.

Activity categories

Every Activity belongs to one of six categories:

CategoryExamples
ObservationScouting for pests, checking seed germination, Brix Testing
DesignPlanning bed layout, crop rotation schedule
ImplementationNo-Dig Garden Bed Setup, Sheet Mulching, direct sowing
MonitoringHot Composting temperature checks, Soil pH Testing
AnalysisGermination Testing, Soil Biology Assessment — Jar Test
ManagementSeed Saving — Tomato, Seed Saving — Lettuce, Compost Tea Brewing

Creating an Activity

  1. Open your Workspace and click Activities then New Activity.
  2. Give it a title — e.g. "Turn compost bay 2" or "Sow basil succession".
  3. Choose a category from the list above.
  4. Optionally link a Method. If you select Hot Composting, the platform will load its observation templates automatically.
  5. Set the date (defaults to today).

Linking Elements

Activities connect to Elements as inputs and outputs. When you plant out tomato seedlings, the seed lot is an input and the new plant Elements are outputs. When you brew compost tea, compost is the input and the tea is the output. These links create the provenance chain that lets you trace any Element back through its history.

Recording Observations

If your Activity is linked to a Method, the relevant observation templates appear automatically. For Hot Composting you will see fields for temperature, moisture level, odour, and whether you turned the pile. Fill in what you can — partial data is fine.

Photos and sharing

Upload photos directly to an Activity to document what you see. Use the Share button to generate a share card for posting to social media or the Libre Grow community feed. Shared Activities show your title, photo, and a link back to the full record.
