Site Assessment

A thorough observation and documentation of your site's existing conditions before designing.

Steps:

1. Walk the site at different times of day and in different weather
2. Map existing features: buildings, trees, water sources, paths
3. Note sun patterns, wind direction, slope, drainage
4. Identify soil types across the site
5. Document existing plants, wildlife, and microclimates
6. Record any problem areas (erosion, waterlogging, exposed to wind)
7. Photograph the site from multiple angles
8. Compile findings into a site assessment document
