Succession Planning

Plan the sequence of plantings and activities across seasons and years to build soil, establish plants, and develop the system over time.

Steps:

1. Define the end goal (what the mature system looks like)
2. Work backwards: what needs to happen first?
3. Year 1: soil building, infrastructure, pioneer species
4. Year 2-3: main plantings, guilds, food production begins
5. Year 4+: system matures, maintenance focus
6. Map activities to seasons (what to plant/do when)
7. Identify dependencies (bed must be built before planting)
8. Create a month-by-month calendar for at least the first year
